Technology helping in daily lives

I have been using Careem app since 1.5 years. First time, I used it when I traveled to Lahore alone. This app really helped me. Now, I use it to commute to office, grocery shopping & social events.

I broke my phone’s screen last week. So, I don’t have phone nowadays. Unfortunately, our car is at mechanic. So, I am using public vans, Metro & taxis to commute.

I have used public transport for many years & that too in Karachi. But in recent years, Careem app has really helped me in improving my daily commute which I realized after being in public transport once again. Here are few points, I would like to share about this realization:

  1. Economical:

Normally, Careem cab charges me 80 – 90 Rs. to office. But, public taxis charge me no less than 150 Rs. That’s double of what I pay . I tried bargaining but all in vain.

Not to forget the feeling when it sends a promo code:

          2. Time Saving:

To make it economical, I opted for public van & METRO. From my home, I have to take van first & then METRO to reach office. I had to leave 1.5 hours before my office starts. As, there is no fix van time to reach a stop, I asked van driver about timings. He replied, ‘Baji! jab sawari mile gee’. When I use app, I book a ride 20 min before my office starts & that too at my doorstep.

In case of taxi, I have to either go to taxi stand or wait for one to come without any idea of time.

I can’t wait for my phone to use app to save time of going to taxi stand & bargain discussion.

        3. Service Maintenance:

Last week, this taxi was not clean & driver was smoking. I had to request driver to drop that cigarette which he did after finishing it. I don’t know, where to give my feedback about that. No!

       4. Security & safety:

Last but not least, here is the most important point for me. Last week, I was coming back home at 10 pm. I took taxi and it stopped in the middle of road. Driver informed that taxi engine had some issues. I didn’t have any clue. Thankfully, I found another taxi within 10 min. But, in such scenarios, Careem has always been helpful in providing a different ride right on time.

So, Careem is one of those apps which is really helping people in daily lives. Yes, technology is helpful when it improves daily lifestyles.

P.S: Let’s hope, it launches in my hometown, Gilgit, soon 🙂
